Cult Collectibles is proud to announce the release of its first "Weird Wobbler" bobblehead style figure from one of the most outrageous underground films ever made: BLACK DEVIL DOLL!
We caught up with Mark Jason Murray to talk about this bobblehead figure.
Bobbie Shay: When is the official release date of the Black Devil Doll Bobble Head?
Mark Jason Murray: The figures are crossing the Pacific Ocean and should be here by September 15. It’s been a 5 month process getting this thing made so I am excited for it to arrive. It came out so much better than I originally anticipated.
Bobbie Shay: Were these made as a Limited Edition Set? If so, how many were produced?
Mark Jason Murray: Yes, these are limited to 1,000 individually hand numbered figures making them great collector’s items unlike anything anyone currently has in their collection. Bobbleheads are very well received by just about anyone and I thought it would be great to make bobblehead figures of characters and people that nobody else is doing. I also hope that people see just how detailed these are as I try to make them very accurate and actually look as much like who they are supposed to while still retaining the feel of a bobblehead. So many figures come out that never really look accurate and I am going for realism more than caricature. I remember meeting Bruce Campbell and he complained that most figures of him looked terrible and often even had his eye color incorrect. That stuck in my head for several years and is something that I pay very close attention to with my products.
Bobbie Shay: What is the suggested retail price?
Mark Jason Murray: You can order direct from www.cultcollectibles.com for $16.95 plus shipping.
Bobbie Shay: What type of packaging does the Bobble Head come in?
Mark Jason Murray: All my figures will feature full color packaging as I believe this can be just as important as the figure itself. For the BLACK DEVIL DOLL, I wanted the box to have the same look and feel as the film so I got Stephen Romano, who did all the posters for the BLACK DEVIL DOLL film to do the box and it’s so amazingly over the top. He did an awesome job and I am really happy with that too. I am hoping to continue to work with Stephen on my upcoming figures as well.
Bobbie Shay: Can you talk a bit about the trading card for pre-orders? Is that still available?
Mark Jason Murray: Free trading cards will be available through September 15, 2010 when the pre-order period is over. I am trying to appeal to a hardcore collector mentality and thought that a special trading card as a pre-order incentive would be a nice addition to the package and also a kind of “thank you” to those who show their support. The preorder period is important in regards to helping to generate the funds to begin the manufacturing of my next figure, which will be the Geretta Geretta “DEMON DOLL” paying tribute to her 80’s Italian horror films like Lamberto Bava’s DEMONS, Lucio Fulci’s MURDER-ROCK, RATS: NIGHT OF TERROR and others. That will have its own special trading card as will all my future figures.
Bobbie Shay: Who was the designer of the original doll? What was their response to your product?
Mark Jason Murray: The creators of the film made the original doll featured in the movie. Their response to the product was completely enthusiastic and supportive. Every stage of the creation of this was collaborated upon with them so everyone is incredibly happy with how it turned out.
Bobbie Shay: Why was this the first choice for production? Will you release more products based on the Black Devil Doll?
Mark Jason Murray: I go over this in a “making of” video about the figure (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KbqRll7Kvg) but essentially I wanted to do something that would set me apart from everyone else. I am a fan of the film and wanted to work with its creators who are also friends. It’s a lot of fun to collaborate with people that are just as enthusiastic about what I am doing as I am.
Bobbie Shay: How has the overall response been to this product?
Mark Jason Murray: It’s been great and I anticipate it to grow ever more as the word continues to spread and also once the figure is in house and ready to ship. I’ve been working hard getting ads in magazines along with upcoming coverage and trying to get as much support online as possible. Just in the short time since I started Cult Collectibles I have met a lot of great and supportive people who have volunteered to pass out promotional info at conventions and related events and help spread the word. It’s great to still see people who are interested in helping out something that they have interest in.
Bobbie Shay: Where can our readers find out more information on this product?
Mark Jason Murray: www.cultcollectibles.com is frequently updated and I also have facebook, MySpace, twitter and YouTube pages that people can join up with there. There’s quite a bit going on here and I like to let people know the progress of my figures. The “DEMON DOLL” figure will be out before the end of the year and preorders should be starting in September. The figure based on the “head wound girl” from Lucio Fulci’s classic film THE BEYOND will be out in early 2011 along with a figure of Lucio Fulci himself in the middle of next year. I am also working on securing a couple more licenses to keep me busy through the beginning of 2012. As long as people continue to support these products I will be able to continue to make them. Thanks!

Bobbie Shay: Thank you for your time. Best of luck with this figure! Comment on this article here or on our forum.
